Wind of Change, Part I

The Meaning

The Wind of Change is a song written by Klaus Meine and sang by the Scorpion, celebrate the political changes in the Eastern Europe. Beginning with the Polish Round Table Agreement ; a contract achieved to defuse the growing of social unrest, later the fall of Berlin Wall, which symbolic the dissolution of the Iron Curtain between the Western Europe (anti-communist) and the Eastern Block (communist). This two occurrence later would bring about a tremendous affect on the fall of the USSR and the clearly imminent end of the Cold War.

With the fall of the great communist block -USSR, many new countries achieved their independent state, and, with the ending episode of the Soviet Union, the Cold War between them and the United State, has come to a stop.

Back to the lyrics, most people would get confused with the opening

The Moksva is the name of a river that runs through Moscow, the capital of Russia, or then known as the Soviet Union, and Gorky Park is the amusement park located in Moscow as well. Those lyrics are written based on the experience of Klaus Meine when they (he and his band) visit Moscow in 1989. With the collapse of the USSR, the 'wind', ie the politics and government of the Union are restructured

The army of the Soviet is indicated here to symbolize the reign of the Union is coming to an end with their last marching, as they listened to the 'wind' that changes the structure of the Block.

In the next verse, it is hoped that the people of the country, be it a Soviet country or the Soviet-independent countries, to keep the peace of their respective country so that there will be no more wars.

With the dissolution of USSR, many hopes are being built, and dreams are being implanted within the children, to see their having a better future. Where the children of tomorrow dream away, In the wind of change : With more freedom to choose the political power to run their respective country, there will be new hope for the children or the people itself to shift their future into a more excellent way.

As with the fall of the USSR, all the memories during the ruling of the Soviet are forgotten and left behind, so a new chapter of life could be created without any influence of the union.

With the dissolution of the USSR, it gives a new chance for the world, particularly the countries being set free, to shape their own future. It is as if there's an enormous wind that blows up the freedom bell to ring. Balalaika is a stringed instrument, originated from Russia, that is triangular in shape. Klaus Meine purposely choose the instrument as it originated from the nation that once, hold the greatest power in the world.
